1. Quantitative and differential analysis of ciliate protozoa in rumen content samples filtered before and after fixation
The objective of this study was to assess whether the straining of rumen content samples influences the estimation of protozoal density. Ninety rumen samples were obtained from 30 cattle (three samples per animal). The samples were subjected to one of three treatments at the moment of collection: 1) fixation informalin without straining(control treatment), 2

A mistura cons

3. Monensin e yeast on oil diets fed to Nellore finishing bulls / Monensina e levedura em dietas com óleo fornecidas a touros Nelores em terminação
This work had the objective of evaluate the use of monensin, yeast and the interaction of these additives on Nellore digestive metabolism and performance. It were conducted two trials. Experiment 1. It were utilized four Nellore steers with rumen and duodenum cannulas to evaluate the diet degradability, digestibility, biohydrogenation, rumen microrganisms an

4. Fontes de gordura e utilização de monensina nos parâmetros ruminais e protozoários ciliados de bovinos da raça Nelore / Fatty sources and utilization of monensin on rumen parameters and ciliate protozoa of Nellore cattle

5. Occurrence of the Ciliate Protozoa Bütschlia parva Schuberg in the Rumen of the Ovine 1
The holotrich ciliate protozoa, Bütschlia parva Schuberg, has been observed in the rumen of the ovine. Limited data suggest that the concentration of B. parva in the rumen follows a diurnal cycle similar to that of the other holotrichs.

6. Variation in Numbers and Mass of Ciliate Protozoa in the Rumens of Sheep Fed Chaffed Alfalfa (Medicago sativa)
Masses and numbers of rumen ciliate protozoa were markedly different in individual sheep fed chaffed alfalfa hay under different feeding regimens. Studies on the ciliate contribution to specific aspects of rumen fermentation should take into account the size of members of each genus in individual animals as well as the numbers present.

7. 2-Aminoethylphosphonic acid concentrations in some rumen ciliate protozoa.
The concentration of 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid has been measured in seven genera of rumen ciliate protozoa. Expressed as milligrams per gram of total nitrogen, 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid concentrations ranged from 17.2 in Ophryoscolex spp. to 72.4 in Eremoplastron spp.

8. Rumen Microbial Ecology in Mule Deer1
Mule deer rumen microbial populations from animals in the natural habitat in Utah and from captive deer fed various rations were studied. The microorganisms were characterized on the basis of morphology and Gram reaction. Rumen samples contained 13 identifiable types of bacteria and one genus of ciliate protozoa (Entodinium). Highest rumen bacterial populati

9. Simple Method to Remove Completely Ciliate Protozoa of Adult Ruminants1
Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (Aerosol OT) has been used in a remarkably short period to obtain rumen ciliate-free cows. Two 30-g doses of Aerosol OT given on consecutive days appeared to effectively eliminate all types of rumen ciliate protozoa without harming the health of the host animal. Measurement of the rumen metabolic parameters of gas production, ca

10. Attachment of the ciliate Epidinium Crawley to plant fragments in the sheep rumen.
High concentrations of the ciliate Epidinium Crawley are associated with damaged regions of fresh plant material undergoing digestion in the sheep rumen. This finding supports that postulate that sequestration in the rumen explains the low rate of passage of protozoa despite the high flow rate of liquid from the rumen. The maintenance of Epidinium in the rum

12. Effect of Absence of Ciliate Protozoa From the Rumen on Microbial Activity and Growth of Lambs
A survey of the components of the rumen ciliate population in a series of adult sheep, raised in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Alexandria, has shown that a mixture of Entodinium, Isotricha, Ophryoscolex, Diplodinium, and Polyplastron species was found in the rumen contents of Egyptian sheep; no Epidinium and a negligible number of Dasytricha rumi
