1. [RETRACTED ARTICLE] Characteristics of liver fibrosis with different etiologies using a fully quantitative fibrosis assessment tool
This study aimed to test the diagnostic performance of a fully quantitative fibrosis assessment tool for liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). A total of 117 patients with liver fibrosis were included in this study, including 50 patients with CHB, 49 patients with

As pos

3. Ferramenta biofotonica integrada para manipulações e microscopias confocais / Integrates biophotonic tool for manipulations and confocal microscopies
The research in biomedical photonics is clearly evolving in the direction of the understanding of biological processes at the cell level. The spatial resolution to accomplish this task practically requires photonics tools. However, an integration of different photonic tools and a multimodal and functional approach will be necessary to access the mechanical a

4. Estudo da orientação molecular em filmes automontados de azopolímeros por meio da técnica de geração de segundo harmônico (SHG) / Molecular orientation in self-assembled azo-polymer thin films studied by second harmonic generation (SHG).
Ultrathin films of polymers containing azochromophores are important for many applications such as optical data storage, formation of surface relief gratings, liquid crystal alignment layers and non-linear optical devices. Among several techniques for fabricating organic thin films, the Layer-By-Layer electrostatic self-assembly (LBL) is very attractive due

5. GLASS ELECTROTHERMAL POLING AND CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES / POLARIZAÇÃO ELETROTÉRMICA DE VIDROS E TÉCNICAS DE CARACTERIZAÇÃO
It is possible to create a second order non linearity in silica samples with the poling process. The glass samples with an induced X(2) have a potential application on the fabrication of optical devices such as modulators and frequency converters. In the electrothermal poling process, high voltage and high temperature are applied to the samples forming an io

6. Live tissue intrinsic emission microscopy using multiphoton-excited native fluorescence and second harmonic generation
Multicolor nonlinear microscopy of living tissue using two- and three-photon-excited intrinsic fluorescence combined with second harmonic generation by supermolecular structures produces images with the resolution and detail of standard histology without the use of exogenous stains. Imaging of intrinsic indicators within tissue, such as nicotinamide aden

7. Invited Review Article: Imaging techniques for harmonic and multiphoton absorption fluorescence microscopy
We review the current state of multiphoton microscopy. In particular, the requirements and limitations associated with high-speed multiphoton imaging are considered. A description of the different scanning technologies such as line scan, multifoci approaches, multidepth microscopy, and novel detection techniques is given. The main nonlinear optical contrast

8. Uniform polarity microtubule assemblies imaged in native brain tissue by second-harmonic generation microscopy
Microtubule (MT) ensemble polarity is a diagnostic determinant of the structure and function of neuronal processes. Here, polarized MT structures are selectively imaged with second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy in native brain tissue. This SHG is found to colocalize with axons in both brain slices and cultured neurons. Because SHG arises only from

9. Structural Characterization of Edematous Corneas by Forward and Backward Second Harmonic Generation Imaging
The purpose of this study was to image and quantify the structural changes of corneal edema by second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy. Bovine cornea was used as an experimental model to characterize structural alterations in edematous corneas. Forward SHG and backward SHG signals were simultaneously collected from normal and edematous bovine corneas to

10. Imaging cells and extracellular matrix in vivo by using second-harmonic generation and two-photon excited fluorescence
Multiphoton microscopy relies on nonlinear light–matter interactions to provide contrast and optical sectioning capability for high-resolution imaging. Most multiphoton microscopy studies in biological systems have relied on two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) to produce images. With increasing applications of multiphoton microscopy to thick-tissue “i

11. Multimodal optical workstation for simultaneous linear, nonlinear microscopy and nanomanipulation: Upgrading a commercial confocal inverted microscope
In this work we propose and build a multimodal optical workstation that extends a commercially available confocal microscope (Nikon Confocal C1-Si) to include nonlinear∕multiphoton microscopy and optical manipulation∕stimulation tools such as nanosurgery. The setup allows both subsystems (confocal and nonlinear) to work independently and simultaneously.
