O diâmetro do forame oval e a excursão máxima do septum primu

4. Alternative parameters for echocardiographic assessment of fetal diastolic function
Alternative methods to assess ventricular diastolic function in the fetus are proposed. Fetal myocardial hypertrophy in maternal diabetes was used as a model of decreased left ventricular compliance (LVC), and fetal respiratory movements as a model of increased LVC. Comparison of three groups of fetuses showed that, in 10 fetuses of diabetic mothers (FDM) wi

5. Identification of congenital cardiac malformations by echocardiography in midtrimester fetus.
Fetal echocardiograms were performed in 21 pregnancies before midtrimester termination. All fetal heart specimens were collected and studied morphologically. Eighteen had been diagnosed as normal echocardiographically and this was confirmed anatomically. Deficiency of the atrial septum was suspected in one, and primum and secundum atrial septal defects were

6. Atrial septal defect of the persistent ostium primum type with hypoplastic right ventricle in a Welsh pony foal.
Valvular competency of the foramen ovale (patent foramen ovale) is regarded as a common finding in the neonatal foal and usually occurs in isolation. True atrial septal defects appear to be uncommon and are usually associated with other congenital cardiac lesions. The present report describes a case of atrial septal defect type 1 (persistent ostium primum) c

7. Assessment of atrioventricular septal defects by two dimensional echocardiography.
Ninety-six patients with an atrioventricular septal defect were assessed by two dimensional echocardiography. Forty-eight patients were judged as having two discrete valve orifices. In this group, 37 had an intact ventricular septum and 11 a ventricular septal defect. Two patterns of attachment of the valve leaflets to the interventricular septum were noted.

8. Morphology and classification of atrioventricular defects.
Anatomical studies were made on 114 necropsy specimens of atrioventricular defects with atrioventricular concordance. The malformation is characterised by disproportion between the ventricular inlet and outlet dimensions and a malorientation of the aortic valve relative to the atrioventricular valve or valves. Associated with this there is a characteristic '

9. Anatomical-embryological correlates in atrioventricular septal defect.
Recent embryological studies have supported the consideration that the ventricular septum is multifocal in origin. These data have also provided excellent correlation of the morphology of malformed hearts with their embryology. In particular, atrioventricular septal defect correlates accurately with these observations on ventricular septation. Many of the na

10. Atypical form of atrioventricular septal defect without left axis deviation: relation between morphology and unusual QRS axis.
OBJECTIVE--To clarify the morphological features relating to an intermediate axis or a right axis deviation in atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD). SUBJECTS--135 patients with typical AVSD and with nine patients with atypical AVSD, characterised by a well formed atrial septum, a milder downward displacement of the atrioventricular valves, and a shorter len

11. Comparative anatomy of the cardiac foramen ovale in cats (Felidae), dogs (Canidae), bears (Ursidae) and hyaenas (Hyaenidae).
The structure of the foramen ovale from 16 species representing 4 carnivore families, the Felidae, Canidae, Ursidae and Hyaenidae, was studied using the scanning electron microscope. The Felidae were represented by 9 domestic cat fetuses (Felis catus), 2 snow leopard neonates (Uncia uncia), an ocelot neonate (Leopardus pardalis), 2 lion neonates (Panthera le

12. Left to right atrial shunting in tricuspid atresia.
In tricuspid atresia, an obligatory right to left shunt occurs at the atrial level. We have observed several patients with left to right interatrial shunts. Data from cardiac catheterisation in 40 consecutive patients were reviewed to determine the frequency and mechanism of left to right shunting in tricuspid atresia. An increase of 6% or more in oxygen sat
