1. Numerical investigation of diffuse instability in sandy soil using discrete element method under proportional strain path loading
Abstract The Loose sandy soil can manifest static liquefaction phenomenon under undrained condition, in which the onset of instability is within the failure line, and there is no obvious shear band. This type of failure mode, very different from localized instability that occurs in dense sand, is called the diffuse instability. In this paper, a series of pro

2. Influence of Stress on Propagation of Shear Wave in Piezoelectric-Piezoelectric (PE-PE) Composite Layered Structure
Abstract Shear waves (SH) propagation in piezoelectric composite under the influence of initial stress is investigated analytically and numerically. The dispersion equation of shear waves propagation in direction normal to the layering is obtained in presence of initial stress. Numerical solutions were obtained for evaluating the effect of stress on dimensi

3. Comparative assessment of microstructure and texture in the Fe-30.5Mn-8.0Al-1.2C and Fe-30.5Mn-2.1Al-1.2C steels under cold rolling
Abstract Investigation of microstructure and texture has been done for cold rolled Fe-30.5Mn-8.0Al-1.2C (8Al) and Fe-30.5Mn-2.1Al-1.2C (2Al) (wt.%) steels. They were rolled to a strain of ~0.70. Refinement of a crystallographic slip band substructure in low to medium rolling strain and nucleation of twins on the mature slip bands at a higher strain were sugg

4. Multi-model finite element scheme for static and free vibration analyses of composite laminated beams
Abstract A transition element is developed for the local global analysis of laminated composite beams. It bridges one part of the domain modelled with a higher order theory and other with a 2D mixed layerwise theory (LWT) used at critical zone of the domain. The use of developed transition element makes the analysis for interlaminar stresses possible with si

5. Ab. initio study of the structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties of Cu3N
Electronic, optical, elastic, properties of Copper nitride (Cu3N) in cubic anti- ReO3 phase have been studied using the full-potential augmented plane waves (FP-LAPW) within density functional theory (DFT) framework. Generalized gradient approximation (GGA), local density approximation (LDA), Perdew - Burke - Ernzerhof generalized parameterization of gradien

6. Nonlocal continuum mechanics formulation for axial, flexural, shear and contraction coupled wave propagation in single walled carbon nanotubes
This paper presents the effect of nonlocal scaling parameter on the coupled i.e., axial, flexural, shear and contraction, wave propagation in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The axial and transverse motion of SWCNT is modeled based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and thickness contraction. The governing equations are derived based on

7. Effect of ion irradiation on mechanical behaviors of Ti40Zr25Be30Cr5 bulk metallic glass
In this work, the effect of C4+ and Cl4+ ion irradiation with 25 MeV energy on the hardness and shear banding feature of Ti40Zr25Be30Cr5 bulk metallic glass was studied. Depth-sensing nanoindetation and microindentation were applied for characterizing the multiple-scaled hardness and shear band patterns during plastic deformation. It is shown that the Cl4+ i

"Influência do Processamento Termomecânico sobre a Formação de Bandas de Cisalhamento e Propriedades Magnéticas de um Aço de Grão Não Orientado com 3%Si" / "Influência do Processamento Termomecânico sobre a Formação de Bandas de Cisalhamento e Propriedades Magnéticas de um Aço de Grão Não Orientado com 3%Si"
Non-oriented silicon steels are soft magnetic materials widely used in equipments for electricity generation and distribution. The obtaining of both high magnetic induction and low magnetic loss has been subject of research for the improvement and development of new nonoriented silicon steels. These works have focused on the development of alloys with lower

9. First-principles study of structural, electronic and elastic properties of Nb4AlC3
Using First-principles calculations, we have studied the structural, electronic and elastic properties of Nb4AlC3, a new compound belonging to the MAX phases. Geometrical optimization of the unit cell is in good agreement with the experimental data. The effect of high pressures, up to 20 GPa, on the lattice constants shows that the contractions are higher al

10. Study of the influence of structural defects in the properties of carbon nanotube / Estudo da influência de defeitos estruturais nas propriedades de nanotubos de carbono
We have investigated the influence of defects on structural, electronic and mechanical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT), bundles of nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). All our results were obtained with the first principles theory of total energy - Density Functional theory (DFT). We have investigated the structural prope

12. Relationship between the Porcine Stress Syndrome gene and pork quality traits of F2 pigs resulting from divergent crosses
The PSS genotypes of 596 F2 pigs produced by initial mating of Brazilian commercial sows and native boars were characterized by PCR-RFLP and the pork quality traits were evaluated. Among the 596 pigs studied, 493 (82.7%) were NN and 103 (17.3%) were Nn. There were no differences between NN and Nn pigs in the following pork qualities: pHu (5.71 ± 0.16 vs 5.7
