1. Management of neurogenic bladder dysfunction in children update and recommendations on medical treatment
ABSTRACT Introduction: Defective closure of the neural tube affects different systems and generates sequelae, such as neurogenic bladder (NB). Myelomeningocele (MMC) represents the most frequent and most severe cause of NB in children. Damage of the renal parenchyma in children with NB acquired in postnatal stages is preventable given adequate evaluation, f

2. ALTERNATIVE TO THE INVERTED “Y” INCISION IN SCOLIOSIS SECONDARY TO MYELOMENINGOCELE

3. Complications after bladder augmentation in children
PURPOSE : Bladder augmentation is an effective surgical procedure for increasing bladder capacity and reducing pressure on the urinary system. It is indicated for patients with anomalies such as spina bifida, myelomeningocele, urethral valve and bladder exstrophy, who progress with low tolerance of medication. CASES : This was a retrospective study conduct

5. Qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde em mães de crianças e adolescentes com mielomeningocele / Health-related quality of life of mothers of children and adolescents with myelomeningocele
Myelomeningocele (MM) is a disease that causes motor and sensitive disabilities. Health problems associated to this condition may lead mothers the main caregivers to situations of stress, anxiety and depression that may impair their health-related quality of life (HRQL). The aim of this study was to assess the HRQL of mothers of children and adolescents with

6. Precisão da ultra-sonografia bidimensional convencional e da ultra-sonografia tridimensional na avaliação do nível da lesão em fetos com espinha bífida aberta / Precision of conventional two-dimensional and threedimensional sonography in the evaluation of the lesion level in fetuses with open spina bifida
Introduction: Incidence of spina bifida is about 0.5 to 0.8 per 1,000 births, with neonatal mortality around 33% and handicap in about 65% of survivors. Sonography diagnoses about 80% to 100% of cases. Objective: To evaluate the precision of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional sonography in determining vertebral lesion level (the first open vertebra)

7. Estudo do cariotipo constitucional e dos tecidos envolvidos na lesão de crianças portadoras de defeito do tubo neural (DTN) por meio de analise citogenetica convencional e FISH
The association between chromosomal abnormalities, specially aneuploidies and neural tube defects (NTDs) is well known, principally when NTD is not the only malformation present. Recently, research in animal models, using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) identified aneuploidy in neural tissues. The aims of this work were to identify the frequency of

8. Surgical management of the neurogenic bladder and bowel
Spina bifida and myelodysplasia are associated with neurogenic abnormalities of the bladder and bowel function. All children with myelodysplasia require an evaluation of their urinary tract with ultrasound and urodynamics to confirm normal bladder and kidney function. Patients with anatomical and functional abnormalities require treatment, the mainstay being

9. Estudo clinico e sequenciamento direto do gene Twist em individuos com sinais sugestivos da sindrome de Saethre-Chotzen
Saethre-Chotzensyndrome(acrocephalosyndactyly type 111)is an autosomal dominant craniosynostosis condition, with high penetrance and variable expressivity. Mutations in the Fgfr1-Fgfr3 and Twist genes are known to cause craniosynostosis, the former by constitutive activation and the latter by haploinsufficiency. The Twist gene maps to 7p21 and mutations in t

10. The sex ratio in spina bifida.
Published reports on the sex ratio of spina bifida have been reviewed. With one exception, there seems to be no evidence of variation in the sex ratio of spina bifida. In particular, unlike anencephaly, the sex ratio of spina bifida seems to be unrelated to the prevalence of the malformation: this (M/(M+F)) is of the order of 0.44 in respect of all spina bif

11. Lenticonus in spina bifida. A case report.
A previously unreported association between spina bifida and anterior lenticonus is noted. The significance of this finding to the aetiology of some cases of spina bifida is discussed.

12. Are congenital vertebral anomalies and spina bifida cystica aetiologically related?
Radiological records of 104 patients with multiple vertebral anomalies without apparent spina bifida and 112 infants with spina bifida cystica were surveyed and the incidences of hemivertebrae and of rib, vertebral body, and vertebral arch fusions were recorded. The distributions of these four anomalies along the vertebral axis were found not to be statistic
