1. A new methodology for large-scale screening sugarcane resistance to Mahanarva Fimbriolata (Hemiptera: Cercopidae)
ABSTRACT The sugarcane spittlebug, Mahanarva fimbriolata (Walker) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) is an economically important pest of sugarcane in Brazil. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a greenhouse methodology to screen large sugarcane populations for resistance to spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata. A resistant and a susceptible genotype (H.

2. Resistance of sugarcane cultivars to Mahanarva fimbriolata
ABSTRACT The spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata (Stål) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) is one of the most important pest of sugarcane in Brazil. Population control measures are currently restricted to the use of chemical insecticides and the fungus Metarhizium anisopliae, in part because very little information exists regarding the resistance of sugarcane cultivars.

3. A new spittlebug species of Deois (Pandysia) (Hemiptera, Cercopidae, Ischnorhininae) with a key to species of the subgenus
ABSTRACT Deois (Pandysia) paschoali sp. nov. from southern Brazil is described and illustrated. This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the following characters: aedeagus with dorsal margin serrate and paramere with a truncate and serrate spine. A key to species of Pandysia is provided.

5. A new genus and new species of spittlebug (Hemiptera: Cercopidae: Ischnorhininae) from Southern Brazil
A new genus of spittlebug is described to include Gervasiella oakenshieldi sp. nov. (holotype male from Brazil, state of Paraná, municipality of Piraquara, Mananciais da Serra at 25°29'46"S, 48°58'54"W, 1000 m a.s.l., 15.XI.2008, P.C. Grossi leg., deposited in DZUP). In addition, Aeneolamia bucca Paladini & Cavichioli, 2013 is transferred to Gervasiella g

6. Survey of potential sharpshooter and spittlebug vectors of Xylella fastidiosa to grapevines at the São Francisco River Valley, Brazil
Survey of potential sharpshooter and spittlebug vectors of Xylella fastidiosa to grapevines at the São Francisco River Valley, Brazil. Pierce's disease of grapevines, caused by Xylella fastidiosa, is a serious problem in some regions of North America, not yet reported in Brazil. In this study, a survey of potential sharpshooter (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae, Cic

7. Sugarcane straw and the populations of pests and nematodes
The green cane harvesting represented a significant change in sugarcane ecosystem due to the presence of straw left on the soil and to the absence of fire. These two factors may affect the populations of pests and their natural enemies. Among the pests benefit from the green cane harvesting stand out the spittlebug, Mahanarva fimbriolata, the curculionid Sph

8. Differential pathogenicity of Metarhizium anisopliae and the control of the sugarcane root spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata
In order to assess the effectiveness of Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin isolates in controlling the sugarcane root spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata (Stal) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae), nine isolates obtained from a single geographical region were studied. 'Confirmed cumulative' and 'corrected cumulative' spittlebug mortality rates we

9. Induction of insect plant resistance to the spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata Stål (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) in sugarcane by silicon application
Changes in the agroecosystem with the increase of green cane harvesting in Brazil affected the insect populations associated to this crop, and secondary pests like the spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata Stål, became much more important. Many studies have demonstrated the active role played by silicon in plant defense against herbivory. The objective of this s

10. Pachycondyla obscuricornis as natural enemy of the spittlebug Deois flavopicta.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential control of the ant Pachycondyla obscuricornis Emery (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on populations of nymphs of the spittlebug, Deois flavopicta Stal (Hemiptera: Cercopidae). Foraging behavior and prey consumption rate of P. obscuricornis were evaluated. Field data revealed that P. obscuricornis does not sho

11. Protocolo de criação massal de cigarrinhas-das-pastagens e avaliação de resistência de brachiaria spp.: metodologia do CIAT.
ABSTRACT: Plant resistance is the most important method of spittlebug control. The example of this utilization happened in 1980`s, when the Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu took place the B. decumbens. Since B. brizantha cv. Marandu is resistance to Deois flavopicta spittlebug damage, it could solve the economics damage in savannas pastures in that time. Now
