1. Synthesis and characterization of calcium phosphorylated inulin complex as a new source of enriched calcium supplement with prebiotic effect in food
Abstract Bioavailability of calcium in food is not high. Calcium ions can react with the organic acids such as oxalic acid and phytic acid in the food to form insoluble salt. Calcium phosphorylated inulin (CaPInu) was developed as a new potential functional food. Inulin was chemically modified by importing charged group using esterification with phosphate m

3. Casca de arroz processada via enzimólise como fonte de carbono para produção de celulose por Acetobacter xylinum / Rice husk processed with hidrolityc enzimes as source of carbon for the production of bacterial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum
Bacterial cellulose (BC) has been applied in the electronic industry and in medicine as a wound dressing film. However, the high manufacturing cost limits its wide-scale use. To reduce the costs of the process and obtain a differentiated product, this work proposes the use of rice husk as a substrate for the production of BC, since it consists of minerals, c

4. The structure of drug-deoxydinucleoside phosphate complex; generalized conformational behavior of intercalation complexes with RNA and DNA fragments.
A 2:2 complex of proflavine and deoxycytidylyl-3', 5'-guanosine has been crystallized and its structure determined by x-ray crystallography. The two dinucleoside phosphate strands form self complementary duplexes with Watson Crick hydrogen bonds. One proflavin is asymmetrically intercalated between the base pairs and the other is stacked above them. The conf

5. NMR structure of an α-L-LNA:RNA hybrid: structural implications for RNase H recognition
α-L-LNA (α-L-ribo configured locked nucleic acid) is a nucleotide analogue that raises the thermostability of nucleic acid duplexes by up to ∼4°C per inclusion. We have determined the NMR structure of a nonamer α-L-LNA:RNA hybrid with three α-L-LNA modifications. The geometry of this hybrid is intermediate between A- and B-type, all nucleobases partak

6. Crystal Structure of Enzyme I of the Phosphoenolpyruvate Sugar Phosphotransferase System in the Dephosphorylated State*
The bacterial phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) sugar phosphotransferase system mediates sugar uptake and controls the carbon metabolism in response to carbohydrate availability. Enzyme I (EI), the first component of the phosphotransferase system, consists of an N-terminal protein binding domain (EIN) and a C-terminal PEP binding domain (EIC). EI transfers phosphate

7. The Structure of a Cyanobacterial Sucrose-Phosphatase Reveals the Sugar Tongs That Release Free Sucrose in the CellW⃞
Sucrose-phosphatase (SPP) catalyzes the final step in the pathway of sucrose biosynthesis in both plants and cyanobacteria, and the SPPs from these two groups of organisms are closely related. We have crystallized the enzyme from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp PCC 6803 and determined its crystal structure alone and in complex with various ligands. The p

8. Synthesis and biological evaluation of some phosphate triester derivatives of the anti-cancer drug araC.
A number of novel phosphate triester derivatives of the anti-cancer nucleoside analogue araC have been prepared by a rapid 2-step procedure, not necessitating prior sugar protection. Spectroscopic and lipophilicity data have been collected on these compounds. An in vitro assay indicated inhibition of thymidine incorporation by mammalian epithelial cells, by

9. Deletion Mapping of zwf, the Gene for a Constitutive Enzyme, Glucose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase in ESCHERICHIA COLI
Genes for three enzymes of intermediary sugar metabolism in E. coli, zwf (glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, constitutive), edd (gluconate 6-phosphate dehydrase, inducible), and eda (2-keto-3-deoxygluconate 6-phosphate aldolase, differently inducible) are closely linked on the E. coli genetic map, the overall gene order being man... old... eda. edd. zwf... c

10. Structure of uPAR, plasminogen, and sugar-binding sites of the 300 kDa mannose 6-phosphate receptor
The 300 kDa cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptor (CI-MPR) mediates the intracellular transport of newly synthesized lysosomal enzymes containing mannose 6-phosphate on their N-linked oligosaccharides. In addition to its role in lysosome biogenesis, the CI-MPR interacts with a number of different extracellular ligands at the cell surface, including

11. The structural basis of the catalytic mechanism and regulation of glucose-1-phosphate thymidylyltransferase (RmlA)
The synthesis of deoxy-thymidine di-phosphate (dTDP)–l-rhamnose, an important component of the cell wall of many microorganisms, is a target for therapeutic intervention. The first enzyme in the dTDP–l-rhamnose biosynthetic pathway is glucose-1-phosphate thymidylyltransferase (RmlA). RmlA is inhibited by dTDP–l-rhamnose thereby regulating l-rhamnose pr

12. A Raman scattering study of the helix-destabilizing gene-5 protein with adenine-containing nucleotides.
Raman spectra of gp5 and complexes of gp5 with poly(rA) and poly(dA) have been determined and analysed. From a fit of the amide I-band with model spectra it follows that the secondary structure of gp5 contains 52% beta-sheet, 28% undefined conformation and 19% alpha-helix. The band at 1032 cm-1 due to phenylalanine has an anomalous intensity both in the spec
