1. Microstructure and diametral fracture strength of spark plasma sintered WC-6Co-0.2B and WC-6Co-0.5B ceramic composites from nanosized and metastable WC powders
Abstract The present work aimed at evaluating the microstructures and mechanical properties of spark plasma sintered WC-6 wt% Co ceramic composites doped with boron (0.2 and 0.5 wt%). W-50 at% C (W-6.13 wt% C) powders produced under different milling times (20, 60, 180, and 600 min) were used as starting materials and subsequently mixed with Co (6 wt%) and B

2. Characterization of the Austenite Reformation Mechanisms as a Function of the Initial Ferritic State in a UNS S32304 Duplex Stainless Steel
Aiming to better understand the effects of heat treatment parameters on Ferrite-Austenite phase transformation in a 2304 duplex stainless steel different thermal cycles were applied to this steel in a quenching dilatometer. The obtained microstructures were characterized by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffrac

3. EVALUATION OF SODIUM CHLORIDE CRYSTALLIZATION IN MEMBRANE DISTILLATION CRYSTALLIZATION APPLIED TO WATER DESALINATION
Abstract Crystallization in a Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) process was studied both theoretically and experimentally. A mathematical model was proposed in order to predict the transmembrane flux in DCMD. The model fitted well experimental data for the system NaCl-H2O from undersaturated to supersaturated conditions in a specially designed crys

4. Development and Applications of Highly Functional Al-based Materials by Use of Metastable Phases
This paper reviews the features of alloy components, structure and mechanical properties, physical and chemical properties of metastable Al-based alloys developed by use of various liquid or vapor quenching-induced phases such as amorphous, quasicrystalline, nanocrystalline, nanocomposite, supersaturated solid solution and structure gradient phases. As advan

5. Numerical analysis of phase decomposition in A-B binary alloys using Cahn-Hilliard equations
The analysis of phase decomposition was carried out using the nonlinear and linear Cahn-Hilliard equations in a hypothetical A-B alloy system with a miscibility gap. These equations were solved by the explicit finite difference method assuming a regular solution model. The supersaturated solid solution and decomposed phases were considered to have an fcc str

6. A study of Al-Mo powder processing as a possible way to corrosion resistent aluminum-alloys
Elementary Al and Mo powder mixtures have been processed by high energy ball milling up to milling times of 100 hours. The shift of the pitting potential and the X ray analysis of green milled samples showed that part of the Mo has formed a supersaturated solid solution of Mo in Al. Elementary Mo powder, however, was still present after 100 hours of milling.

Estudo espectroeletroquímico e eletroanalítico de banhos de eletrodeposição de ligas prata-cobre e pratazinco e caracterização morfológica, química e estrutural dos filmes / Electroanalytical and spectroelectrochemical study of electrodeposition baths of silver-copper and silver-zinc alloys and morphological, chemical, and structural characterization of the films
The purpose of this thesis was to establish the conditions for silver-copper and silver-zinc electrodeposition from ammonium hydroxide and thiourea solutions, respectively, and to investigate the effect of added EDTA and HEDTA on the electrodeposition process. In this way, the influence of solution composition and electrodeposition parameter (deposition pote

10. Interaction Between Second-Phase Particle Dissolution and Abnormal Grain Growth in an Austenitic Stainless Steel
The continuing development of stainless steels has resulted in complex steel compositions with substantial amounts of alloying elements. The benefits of such additions invariably come attached to unavoidable disadvantages. One of the most critical item is the potential microstructural instability of the material. Alloying elements may be in a supersaturated

11. Determination of aqueous solubility by heating and equilibration: A technical note
A modified shake-flask solubility method, where the equilibration time was shortened through heating, was used to determine the solubility of 48 different drugs and pharmaceutical excipients in pure water at room temperature. The heating process accelerates dissolution of the solid compound and frequently results in supersaturated solution. Seeding with the

12. Stability of dry liposomes in sugar glasses.
Sugars, particularly trehalose and sucrose, are used to stabilize liposomes during hydration (freeze-drying and air-drying). As a result, dry liposomes are trapped in a sugar glass, a supersaturated and thermodynamically unstable solid solution. We investigated the effects of the glassy state on liposome fusion and solute retention in the dry state. Solute l
