2. Nocardiosis: a neglected chronic lung disease in Africa?
Nocardia organisms were cultured from the sputum of 11 patients at the central hospitals in Harare, Zimbabwe, over a 12 month period. Pulmonary nocardiosis was diagnosed in one further patient on the basis of direct microscopy. Among the nine patients available for follow up, pulmonary nocardiosis was considered to be the major clinical problem in six. The p

3. Microimmunodiffusion Test for Nocardiosis
Sera from 71 patients with culturally proven nocardiosis were tested for precipitins against a pool of Nocardia asteroides and N. brasiliensis culture filtrates and against antigens from the supernatant of homogenized N. asteroides cells. A human nocardiosis case serum was used as a reference. Sera from 56 of the 71 cases were reactive with either the cultur

4. Nocardial endophthalmitis: report of two cases studied histopathologically.
We report two cases of nocardial endophthalmitis. Case 1 is a 66-year-old man whose left eye was enucleated about one month after onset of decreased vision. Ophthalmoscopic examination disclosed multiple choroidal masses. Six weeks before the onset of ocular manifestations he had undergone a prolonged carotid endarterectomy with intraoperative complications.

5. Identification of a common immunodominant protein in culture filtrates of three Nocardia species and use in etiologic diagnosis of mycetoma.
Diagnosis of systemic nocardiosis has been hampered by difficulty in the rapid isolation and identification of the organism and by the frequent need for invasive biopsies. We show that a 55,000-Mr protein previously found in Nocardia asteroides is also present in N. brasiliensis and N. caviae culture filtrates. We also used the antigen in a dot blot assay to

6. Comparison of a Newly Developed Latex Agglutination Test and an Immunodiffusion Test in the Diagnosis of Systemic Candidiasis1
A newly developed latex agglutination (LA) test and a modified immunodiffusion (ID) test were evaluated. The antigen used was a homogenate of Candida albicans. A total of 167 antisera were employed in the evaluation. They included 36 sera from clinically well persons; 78 from patients with various clinical forms of candidiasis; 52 from patients with proven c
