1. A germline-targeted genetic screen for xrn-2 suppressors identifies a novel gene C34C12.2 in Caenorhabditis elegans
Abstract XRN2 is an evolutionarily conserved 5’-to-3’ exoribonuclease, which degrades or trims various types of RNA in the nucleus. Although XRN-2 is essential for embryogenesis, larval development and reproduction in Caenorhabditis elegans, relevant molecular pathways remain unidentified. Here we create a germline-specific xrn-2 conditional mutant and p

2. Enrichment of fishburgers with proteins from surimi washing water
Abstract The proteins recovered by ultrafiltration (UF) represent a co-product of fish industrialization and can be used as a protein ingredient in the fortification of food formulations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of surimi fishburger elaborated with the proteins recovered by UF from the wastewater generated in the production of

4. Os investimentos internacionais e a reforma das TRIMs / The international investiments and thes TRIMs reform

The interaction between income tax law and international trade law

The international regime on foreign investments
The purpose of this work is to analyze the changes introduced in the international legal regime applicable to foreign investment in the last decade. After an historical study on the development of this regime, the four trends that shaped the elaboration of these rules during this period are examined. Firstly, the tendency to the creation of international reg

7. Crystal structure of a class I α1,2-mannosidase involved in N-glycan processing and endoplasmic reticulum quality control
Mannose trimming is not only essential for N-glycan maturation in mammalian cells but also triggers degradation of misfolded glycoproteins. The crystal structure of the class I α1,2-mannosidase that trims Man9GlcNAc2 to Man8GlcNAc2isomer B in the endoplasmic reticulum of Saccharomyces cerevisiae reveals a novel (αα)7-barrel in which an N-glycan from one m

8. Membrane-Bound Lytic Endotransglycosylase in Escherichia coli
The gene for a novel endotype membrane-bound lytic transglycosylase, emtA, was mapped at 26.7 min of the E. coli chromosome. EmtA is a lipoprotein with an apparent molecular mass of 22 kDa. Overexpression of the emtA gene did not result in bacteriolysis in vivo, but the enzyme was shown to hydrolyze glycan strands isolated from murein by amidase treatment. T

9. The polyglutamine neurodegenerative protein ataxin 3 regulates aggresome formation
The polyglutamine-containing neurodegenerative protein ataxin 3 (AT3) has deubiquitylating activity and binds ubiquitin chains with a preference for chains of four or more ubiquitins. Here we characterize the deubiquitylating activity of AT3 in vitro and show it trims/edits K48-linked ubiquitin chains. AT3 also edits polyubiquitylated 125I-lysozyme and decre

10. Reconstitution of uridine-deletion precleaved RNA editing with two recombinant enzymes
Uridine insertion/deletion RNA editing in trypanosomatid mitochondria is a posttranscriptional RNA modification phenomenon required for translation of mitochondrial mRNAs. This process involves guide RNA-mediated cleavage at a specific site, insertion or deletion of Us from the 3′ end of the 5′ mRNA fragment, and ligation of the two mRNA fragments. The L

11. Essential Roles of Bdp1, a Subunit of RNA Polymerase III Initiation Factor TFIIIB, in Transcription and tRNA Processing
The essential Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene BDP1 encodes a subunit of RNA polymerase III (Pol III) transcription factor (TFIIIB); TATA box binding protein (TBP) and Brf1 are the other subunits of this three-protein complex. Deletion analysis defined three segments of Bdp1 that are essential for viability. A central segment, comprising amino acids 327 to 353,
