3. Headspace analysis and characterisation of South African propolis volatile compounds using GCxGC–ToF–MS
ABSTRACT Propolis also known as "bee glue or bee resin" is a resinous mixture of bee saliva or bee wax and exudate from tree trunks and flowers, produced by honeybees. The composition of propolis varies depending on the vegetation the bees can access. It is therefore expected that propolis obtained from various localities may have different chemical profiles

4. Epiphyte-phorophyte relationships: assessing the differences between Seasonal Semideciduous and Swamp Forests in Southeastern Brazil1
RESUMO As epífitas vasculares são responsáveis por uma parcela considerável da biodiversidade tropical; no entanto, suas relações com os forófitos entre diferentes tipos de vegetação em que ocorrem ainda são pouco compreendidas. Neste trabalho, objetivamos avaliar a presença, a abundância, a distribuição vertical e a categoria ecológica (holoe

5. Occurrence of triatomines (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) in domestic and natural environments in Novo Remanso, Itacoatiara, Amazonas, Brazil
Abstract INTRODUCTION The present study reports the presence of triatomines in natural, peridomestic, and intradomicile environments in Itacoatiara municipality, state of Amazonas, a non-endemic region for Chagas disease. METHODS Active search was performed inside tree trunks, and palm trees, residences, and peridomiciles localized near the forest area.

6. Winged ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) presence in twigs on the leaf litter of Atlantic Forest

7. Organization of fish assemblages in blackwater Atlantic Forest streams

8. Abiotic effects on the cover and richness of corticolous lichens on Araucaria angustifolia trunks
ABSTRACT Lichens play a key role in natural ecosystems, as they can function as primary producers, recycle minerals and fix nitrogen. Despite their environmental importance, little is known about lichen ecology in Brazil, and especially about how abiotic factors may influence their spatial distribution. In this study, we aimed to verify how the cover and ric

9. Characteristics of Wood and Charcoal from Eucalyptus clones
ABSTRACT The characteristics of wood and charcoal depend on the genetic material and the sampling position on the tree trunk. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of clone and longitudinal position on the characteristics of wood and charcoal of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla. Specimens belonging to I144 and GG100 clones both at

10. Simultaneous Equations to Estimate Aboveground Biomass of Pinus caribaea var . hondurensis
ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop equations to predict the biomass of trunks, branches, needles and total individual biomass for Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis . A simultaneous equation system was also adjusted. Twenty (20) trees from the experimental area of the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB), Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil, were meas

11. Relating flight initiation distance in birds to tropical dry forest restoration
ABSTRACT Flight initiation distance (FID), defined as the distance at which an individual flees from an approaching predator, might depend on how the individual perceives the risk of being predated. Using a standardized walking approach method on focal bird individuals, we investigated whether different levels of vegetation cover (habitat) influence the perc

12. The breeding biology and nest success of the Short-tailed Antthrush Chamaeza campanisona (Aves: Formicariidae) in the Atlantic rainforest of northeastern Brazil
ABSTRACT We present the results of a 26-year study on the breeding biology of the Short-tailed Antthrush, Chamaeza campanisona (Lichtenstein, 1823) in an Atlantic rainforest remnant of northeastern Brazil (Alagoas/Pernambuco). We followed the fate of 38 nests, of which 19 failed, 11 succeeded and 8 had an unknown fate. The presence of most nests coincided wi
