1. Congenital Heart Disease Revealing Familial 22q11 Deletion Syndrome
Abstract Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects and the leading cause of mortality in the first year of life. It is well known that the 22q11 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) is the most common microdeletion syndrome in humans and that congenial heart diseases (CHDs) are one of the most common phenotypic manifestations. However, it should be n

3. Classification of Flying Insects with high performance using improved DTW algorithm based on hidden Markov model
ABSTRACT Insects play significant role in the human life. And insects pollinate major food crops consumed in the world. Insect pests consume and destroy major crops in the world. Hence to have control over the disease and pests, researches are going on in the area of entomology using chemical, biological and mechanical approaches. The data relevant to the fl

4. Avaliação dos efeitos de exercícios vocais em vozes normais com análise perceptivo-auditiva, acústica e de imagens laríngeas obtidas por videolaringoscopia de alta velocidade / Immediate effects of vocal exercise in normal voices using perceptual, acoustic analysis and of the high-speed videolaryngoscopy images
The aim is to detect the immediate effect of vocal exercises in normal voices. Thirty healthy subjects from 19 to 45 year old with no vocal complains participated in the study. The sustained vowels /a/ and /E/ were recorded in two moments: the first, we recorded the habitual voice, before any exercises; and the second, after from 1 to 5 minutes of continuous

5. Vocal quality in asthmatics with and without paradoxal vocal fold dysfunction: perceptual, acoustic and physiologic correlates / Qualidade vocal em individuos asmáticos com e sem disfunção paradoxal de pregas vocais: correlatos perceptivo-auditivos, acusticos e fisiologicos
Objective: investigating the perceptual, acoustic and physiological vocal quality of a group of asthmatic individuals with paradoxical vocal fold dysfunction (PVFD) in relation to a group of asthmatic individuals without PVFD and a group of individuals without breathing problems. Methods: recording of acoustic and electroglottographic speech data from 9 indi

6. Phonoaudiological aspects of Saethre-Chotzen syndrome / Aspectos fonoaudiologicos da sindrome de Saethre-Chotzen
Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome (SCS) is characterized by craniosynostosis and several important facial alterations such as: low hair implantation at the front, asymmetry, maxillary hypoplasia, mandibular prognathism, in addition to small, dysmorphic and low-set ears. Among the ocular alterations are: blepharoptosis, strabismus, epicanthus, lachrymal duct stenosis

7. Sintese e reconhecimento da fala humana / Synthesis and recognition of human speech
The goal of this dissertation is to review the main concepts relating to the synthesis, processing, and recognition of human speech by computer. These technologies have many applications, which have increased substantially in recent years after the spread of portable communication equipment (mobile phones, laptops, palmtops) and the universal access to the I

8. Características espectrais da nasalidade / Spectral characteristics of nasality

9. SIMULAÇÃO E DESEMPENHO DE SERVIÇO INTEGRADO DE VOZ E DADOS EM SISTEMAS CELULARES UTILIZANDO O PADRÃO GSM/HSCSD / SIMULATION AND PERFORMANCE OF INTEGRATED DATA AND SPEECH SERVICE IN CELULAR SISTEMS USING GSM/HSCSD
Due to the increasing use of cellular networks for data transmission, mobile telephone operators are facing a dramatic raise in using radio resources to supply their demand. As a result, they are being forced to migrate to new technologies that provide high spectral efficiency, allowing an optimized use of available spectrum. This work describes the developm

10. Effects of envelope bandwidth on the intelligibility of sine- and noise-vocoded speech
The choice of processing parameters for vocoded signals may have an important effect on the availability of various auditory features. Experiment 1 varied envelope cutoff frequency (30 and 300 Hz), carrier type (sine and noise), and number of bands (2–5) for vocoded speech presented to normal-hearing listeners. Performance was better with a high cutoff for

11. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and del(22q11) syndrome: a non-random association.
Del(22q11) is a common microdeletion syndrome with an extremely variable phenotype. Besides classical manifestations, such as velocardiofacial (Shprintzen) or DiGeorge syndromes, del(22q11) syndrome may be associated with unusual but probably causally related anomalies that expand its phenotype and complicate its recognition. We report here three children wi
