1. Unsteady Blade Element-Momentum Method Including Returning Wake Effects
ABSTRACT: The wind energy research has grown substantially in the past few years, considerably fostered by the pursuit for a clean and sustainable energy source. Improvements on the design methods are increasingly needed. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of the Loewy's lift deficiency function (LDF), also named Returning Wake Model, cou

2. THE (IN)SUSTAINABILITIES IN THE SOCIAL PRODUCTION OF SPACE IN MANGUINHOS-RJ / AS (IN)SUSTENTABILIDADES PRESENTES NA PRODUÇÃO SOCIAL DO ESPAÇO EM MANGUINHOS- RJ
This study aims to characterize the changes in the urban city of Rio de Janeiro- RJ from the implementation of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). The space studied is the complex of slums called Manguinhos, that since 2008 has received assistance from the PAC. The goal is to identify strategies for the production of space sustainability and / or (in)sust

3. Generation of stationary Gaussian processes and extreme value distributions for high-cycle fatigue models - application to tidal stream Turbines
The operating environment of tidal stream turbines is random due to the variability of the sea flow (turbulence, wake, tide, streams, among others). This yields complex time-varying random loadings, making it necessary to deal with high cycle multiaxial fatigue when designing such structures. It is thus required to apprehend extreme value distributions of st

4. Parametric analysis of a phenomenological model for vortex-induced motions of monocolumn platforms
Phenomenological models are an important branch in VIV (Vortex-Induced Vibrations) and in VIM (Vortex-Induced Motions) studies to complement the results achieved via CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), as the latter tool is not presently a suitable tool for intense use in engineering analysis, due to high computer power requirements. A phenomenological model

After a spinal cord injury (SCI), structural reorganization occurs locally and at multiple levels of the central nervous system (CNS). Compromising of sensory motor functions and significant alterations of other neural functions are normally related after a SCI. The circardians rhythms, specially the sleep-wake cycle are frequently affected after a trauma or

7. Implementação dos efeitos da não linearidade do tensor de Reynolds em modelos de turbulência baseados na hipótese de Boussinesq / Implementation of non linear effects of Reynolds tensor on turbulence models based on Boussinesq approximation
The main goal of this work is to implement and evaluate the correction proposed by Spalart [53] on turbulence models based on Boussinesq approximation. The objective of this correction is to capture non linear effects of Reynolds tensor, which are not correctly predicted and modeled by Boussinesq approximation. In his work, Spalart [53] proposed the correcti

8. Um estudo dos modelos de gestão utilizados nas pequenas empresas
The proposal of this work is to understand how the small companies treat the administration of their businesses. The methodology used consisted bibliographical research followed by an exploratory research. For such purpose small companies were studied because they are a important economical agent, inserted in an environment of constant transformation and cha

9. Ecological chaos in the wake of invasion.
Irregularities in observed population densities have traditionally been attributed to discretization of the underlying dynamics. We propose an alternative explanation by demonstrating the evolution of spatiotemporal chaos in reaction-diffusion models for predator-prey interactions. The chaos is generated naturally in the wake of invasive waves of predators.

10. Topological requirements for homologous recombination among DNA molecules transfected into mammalian cells.
Cultured animal cells rearrange foreign DNA very efficiently by homologous recombination. The individual steps that constitute the mechanism(s) of homologous recombination in transfected DNA are as yet undefined. In this study, we examined the topological requirements by using the genome of simian virus 40 (SV40) as a probe. By assaying homologous recombinat

11. Vulnerability in an excitable medium: analytical and numerical studies of initiating unidirectional propagation.
Cardiac tissue can display unusual responses to certain stimulation protocols. In the wake of a conditioning wave of excitation, spiral waves can be initiated by applying stimuli timed to occur during a period of vulnerability (VP). Although vulnerability is well known in cardiac and chemical media, the determinants of the VP and its boundaries have received
