1. Potenciais influências de anomalias positivas e negativas na camada de gelo marinho no mar de Ross na circulação atmosférica do Hemisfério Sul / Potential influences on the southern hemisphere atmospheric circulation of negative and positive sea ice extension anomalies in the ross sea
This study have used the CPTEC/INPE AGCM to explore the role of sea ice extent in the Ross Sea as a forcing of the asymmetric atmospheric circulation in the southern hemisphere during the austral winter (July-September), on a seasonal scale. The impacts have been assessed from the standpoint of positive and negative observed anomalies in ice extent in the Ro

2. Relation between the Antarctic Sea ice concentration and low temperatures in South America / Relação entre a concentração de gelo marinho Antártico e a temperatura mínima na América do Sul
The Antarctic Sea Ice Concentration (ASIC) is thought to be an important element in the analysis of the world climate. However, few studies have investigated its relation to other climatic elements. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the relation between the ASIC and low temperatures in South America through two approaches. The first, regional, invest

3. Influência do gelo marinho antártico no setor austral sudoeste do Atlântico Sul / The influence of antactic sea ice in the austral and southwest sector on the south atlantic
In this work the interaction between Antarctic sea-ice and the South Atlantic ocean (austral and southwestern sectors) is investigated. To accomplish this satellite-observed sea-ice concentration (SIC) and a coupled model from NCAR-CCSM3 (National Center for Atmospheric Research - Community Climate System Model version 3) were employed. Three 150-year simula

4. EXPORTAÇÃO DE ÁGUAS PROFUNDAS NA REGIÃO NOROESTE DO MAR DE WEDDELL, ANTÁRTICA: ÊNFASE NA VARIABILIDADE TEMPORAL
The outflow of cold, dense water from the Weddell Sea into the ocean basins to the north plays a key role in balancing the global heat budget. We estimate the geostrophic flow patterns in the northwestern Weddell Sea during the Brazilian DOVETAIL 2000 and 2001 austral summer cruises, using box inverse methods applied to hydrographic data. The analysis is foc

5. Bacterial Standing Stock, Activity, and Carbon Production during Formation and Growth of Sea Ice in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica †
Bacterial response to formation and growth of sea ice was investigated during autumn in the northeastern Weddell Sea. Changes in standing stock, activity, and carbon production of bacteria were determined in successive stages of ice development. During initial ice formation, concentrations of bacterial cells, in the order of 1 × 108 to 3 × 108 liter-1, wer
